ORTHODONTICS
A growing number of children and young people are showing differing degrees of teeth and jaws irregularities – such as an unfavorable position, shape, and number of missing teeth.
Being aware of their lack of aesthetic presentation young people often retreat into themselves, hiding a smile and having a problem fitting in with others.
This branch of dentistry is able to provide a solution to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of abnormalities in the growth and development of the jaws and teeth by placing fixed and removable orthodontic appliances.
1. Fixed braces
WHAT IS FIXED ORTHODONTIC APPLIANCE?
Fixed means that the braces are fixed to the teeth and that the patient cannot take it off during the treatment.
Orthodontics specialist (orthodontist) applies fixed orthodontic appliance.
Each orthodontic appliance comprises of lock (brackets) that "stick" to the incisors, canines and premolars, then of tubes or rings that "stick" to the molars and of the archwire which is connected with the brackets and the rings in one system which makes all of its elements work together.
WHEN AND WHO SHOULD HAVE FIXED APPLIANCES?
The ideal time for treatment with fixed appliances (braces) is after the eruption of second molars (seventh teeth), which is period around age thirteen. More frequently, patients in their fourth and fifth decade of life wear braces.
